Library Loot

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire fromThe Captive Reader and Sharlene from Real Life Reading that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library.

As I haven’t done one of these yet, I’ll have quite the haul this week to get caught up to everything I have checked out right now! Future lootings will hopefully be a bit smaller. Maybe not – we’ll see how much impulse control I have when I’m at the library next time and when I’m checking out books on my phone at work.

• A Thousand Beginnings and Endings An anthology of retellings of Asian myths and legends. I recognized a lot of the authors in this list and retellings are kind of my jam so this was a must-read for me. I’m actually in the middle of this and loving it!
• Crown of Thunder This is the sequel to Beasts Made of Night which I really enjoyed. My main complaint with the first book was that it did wonderful world building and got me really invested in the story only to resolve absolutely nothing and leave you at a cliff-hanger so I’m really looking forward to reading this.
• Shadow of the Fox I’m gonna be real with you – I have no idea what the plot for this even is. I’ve been meaning to check out Julie Kagawa’s work for a while now and I saw a lot of people I know giving good reviews of this book so I picked it up when I ran across it. The cover being gorgeous certainly didn’t hurt either.
• Want Again, another author I’ve been meaning to check out. Again, it was highly reviewed by people I follow. It was also ending up on my feed a lot because the sequel just came out. I know that it’s sci-fi and sort of examines corruption in the face of capitalism and pollution. I’m down. Let’s do this.
• The Forbidden Wish This book has been on my TBR for quite some time for two main reasons 1) it’s an Aladdin retelling (and I’m super into retellings – see first item in this list) and 2) THAT COVER. It was bumped up to like ‘gotta have it’ status when it was one of the two options for backlist bookworms for April. Ultimately, Naomi Novik’s Uprooted was selected, but given that I’m giving that book a break before I give it another chance, I’m going with the pretty book.

• The Epic Crush of Genie Lo This bad boy had been on my radar for a while but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to pick it up. It came to my attention that this was a MONKEY KING RETELLING and I knew I had to have it. I’m actually about a quarter of the way through it right now and it’s a pretty fun read!
• Meet Cute: Some People are Destined to Meet I’ve been on a bit of an anthology kick lately and this one looked cute, plus I recognized a few authors that I’ve either really enjoyed or heard a lot about.
• Sorcerer to the Crown I know this one is about sorcery in historical England and that’s about it. I’ve been meaning to check out this author and this book ended up on my feed. I had a hold on it from a looooooong time ago and it finally came in.
• The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo So my twitter feed literally can’t shut up about this book? At all? I have been promised feelings, LGBT rep, latina rep, and feminist energy. Also that I’m going to be emotionally destroyed. I’m ready to be shook.
• The Poet X The cover drew me in, seeing it across my feeds kept me interested, and curiosity as to what a novel written in prose would be like drove me to check out this book. So far it has been devastatingly gorgeous and I’m so glad I decided to give it a chance.
