Waiting on Wednesday: Escape From the Isle of the Lost

Escape from the Isle of the Lost (Descendants #4) by Melissa de la Cruz
June 4th 2019

Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos may have once been the baddest of the bad, but their wicked ways are (mostly) behind them—and now graduation is almost here! But before the seniors can don their custom-designed caps and gowns, courtesy of Evie, they’ve got an epic plan to put into action. There are tons of villain kids on the Isle of the Lost who are eager for their chance to come to Auradon Prep—even Celia, Dr. Facilier’s trickster daughter, wants in on the deal!—and Mal’s crew is using their upcoming visit to the Isle to help make it happen. But Auradon’s biggest threat is still at large… Trapped on the other side of the barrier, Uma is more desperate than ever to get her long-awaited revenge against Mal. When she discovers an underground lair belonging to Hades, god of the underworld, Uma realizes she’s found the perfect partner in crime. Together, they can defeat Mal, bring down the barrier, and escape the Isle for good. Mal and Uma have a score to settle, and they’ll come face to face in an explosive underwater battle that could determine the fates of Auradon and the Isle of the Lost once and for all.

I adore the Descendants as a whole. There’s absolutely no denying it. The first movie is one of my go-to comfort movies and definitely got me through my senior year of college. I’ve converted friends and coworkers and honestly, it’s not hard. It sells itself. The books aren’t novelizations of the films, but rather are their own stories that tie in with the films, making them fun, new adventures with the characters you know and love.

For those not familiar with the series (both the books and the Disney Channel original movies), it follows the children of Maleficent, Cruella De Vil, the Evil Queen, and Jafar who go from being banished on the Isle of the Lost with their villain parents to attending Auradon Prep, a school for the children of Disney heroes built in the Beast’s old castle, where they learn about being good, found family, and the power of friendship. It’s feel-good Disney fun and I’m so here for it.

This book is also leading up to the hype for the third movie which is set to come out late summer/early fall 2019, though if I’m being honest with you – I might just be looking forward to the book more than the movie. But def give me that movie too. Basically, I’m feeling all the Descendants love and def on the Descendants 2k19 hype train!

What books are you looking forward to? Are you a Descendants fan? Let me know below!

No, seriously. If you even just kinda sorta like Descendants, let me know. I need someone to yell about the series with!

  1. I will never deny my love for the Descendants! One of the best Disney Channel movies to date, and I love love each new “child of ____” addition. I can’t wait for D3 this summer! It’s great to know there’s a book coming out too, now I know to watch out for Escape from the Isle of the Lost as well.

    1. MY RECOMMENDATION IS AS FOLLOWS:
      Movie 1 first
      Then books 1-3
      Then movie 2
HONESTLY, movie 2 had some bops but it just didn’t feel as magical as the first movie did.
You also definitely have to keep in mind that it’s a Disney Channel movie while watching it because it’s cheesy and you can see where pennies were pinched for a TV production but it’s still so lovable! I really hope you get a chance to watch.
