This week’s prompt is series I need to finish and I’d like to say that, for the most part, I’m pretty good with keeping up with series and reading books as they’re released, provided I’ve decided I still want to continue the series. I’ve (finally) given up my completionist mentality and have learned to drop series if they’re not doing it for me anymore. For this week’s prompt I’ve left out any series that I’m caught up on except for unreleased books or newly released books that I don’t have access to yet. As per usual with this blog, these are in no particular order – in part because chaos is definitely a lifestyle around here.
The Young Elites by Marie Lu I read the first book and was pretty into it? I just never got back to the series and I don’t know why. Especially since I can get the audiobooks from my library and listen while I’m at work (one of my favorite things to do!). I saw someone post on twitter about this series within the last week and it’s renewed my interest so I’m sure I’ll get back to it soon.
The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco So I’ve read the first two books in this trilogy and I own the third book. And I love this series. Like, I’ve read the first book three times already love it. I’m not ready for the series to be over nor ready for the emotional damage that the final book is going to do so I’ve just been putting off reading the last book. I’d say I’m going to get to that last book soon but let’s be real – I’m probably going to reread the first book again.
Descendants by Melissa de la Cruz I’m total and complete Descendants trash. I’ve been rereading the books and re-watching the movies to work my way up to the last book. I’m still emotionally dealing with the loss of Cameron Boyce so this one’s been a little hard for me to wrap up. I may or may not be working on a giant Descendants post for later?
An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir I’ve read the first two books in this series and started the third, however I always seem to push this series aside when holds come in or new releases fall into my lap. I don’t know why because I genuinely do enjoy the series. The fourth book is coming next year so I really do need to finish book three already.
Caraval by Stephanie Garber So, I know exactly why I’ve put this one off. While Caraval was amazing, gorgeous, and absolutely swoony, Legendary disappointed me. I kept expecting it to follow the same rules as Caraval and it didn’t. It felt so disjointed as a second book in a series. It just felt like it didn’t belong and was an afterthought and it was SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT. But I want to finish out the series. I’m genuinely curious to see what Garber does with Finale. Just not as excited as I might have been prior to reading Legendary. IT’S BEEN FOREVER AND I’M STILL SALTY.
Are you good with staying on top of series as they come out? Do you have a huge backlist of sequels that you need to work your way through? What are some of your favorite series?
